“My Brother’s Keeper” Not Just A Shout-Out To Jodi Picoult

KON-VICT MU-SIC!

KON-VICT MU-SIC!

A terrifying tidbit from Akon’s Wikipedia entry:

Akon has confirmed that a reality television show is in the works. It will be called “My Brother’s Keeper” and the point is that Akon’s two nearly identical brothers will go around in Atlanta posing as him fooling people into thinking that it is in fact Akon. They will try to get VIP treatment, girls and free things. Akon has claimed that people have mistaken his brothers for him many times in Atlanta which is what the show is based on.

In case you aren’t feeling sated with the flatlining multitude of hidden camera pranking panderfests; in case you feel like you’re not meeting your viewing quota of flabby white guys yelling “NO FREAKIN’ WAY!” well, prepare to lose your shit.  It’s Punk’d: The All Non-Akon Edition!

Something I’m struggling with here: Why Akon? Why not men who look like George Costanza, or surgeried old ladies that look like hot young ladies from the back (that’s pretty Atlanta, right?) or former YouTube stars?  Can you imagine a hidden camera show following a guy who LOOKS like the Numa Numa guy, pretending to BE the Numa Numa guy?!  That TV channel would easily get 100,000 pageviews! Oh.

Mostly, I guess, is the fact that Akon’s appearance isn’t particularly distinctive, nor is he really that big a celebrity.  You just don’t see the kind of paparazzi/fan blitz around Akon that you do around, say, Kanye West.  Though his nasal hooting has made its way onto enough generic rap songs to fill a NOW! That’s What I Call Music compilation, I’m pretty sure the last time people were really freaking out about him was when he threw one of his own concert attendees off the stage and into the crowd.  What I’m saying is, this guy had to throw a human being into a bunch of other human beings from a significant height in order to make any waves in the media. So who cares?  Don’t all Asian people look the same, anyway?
